MedBlueTech Summit 2026 in Alicante – Spain, the international summit on digital transformation in the Mediterranean Blue Economy –
Alicante, 22 September 2026. Alicante will host the MedBlueTech Summit 2026 on 30 September, the International Forum on Technological Transformation in the Blue Economy. The event will bring together companies, public authorities, research centres, startups, investors and professionals involved in maritime and coastal activities at Casa Mediterráneo. Attendance is free of charge, subject to prior registration.
The event is organised by Mediterranean Algae in collaboration with Alicante City Council — through ImpulsAlicante — the Alicante Science Park (PCA), Casa Mediterráneo, Jovempa, The Ocean Race and the European project 2B-Blue.
Mari Carmen de España, Councillor for Employment and Development and head of ImpulsAlicante, the Local Agency for Economic and Social Development of Alicante City Council, highlighted “the importance of investing in innovation. Alicante has become a place of opportunity, an urban laboratory where companies, institutions and professionals can develop their ideas and projects in a privileged environment.”
“In this context, the blue economy is one of the sectors of interest that Alicante has been working on for years, firmly believing in the innovative proposals emerging from local companies, many of which were born within ImpulsAlicante, such as Mediterranean Algae, the driving force behind this international forum,” the councillor added.
MedBlueTech Summit 2026 is consolidating its position as a meeting point for science, technology and industry, aimed at promoting the sustainability and competitiveness of the blue economy in the Mediterranean. Following the success of its inaugural edition in 2025, this year’s event will focus its discussions on the digital transformation of coastal industries.
Digitalisation of the marine environment
The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. with keynote speeches, round tables and technical sessions structured around four strategic areas: European policies, data and funding; Green & Digital Ports, with Fundación Valenciaport and the Port Authority of Alicante; sustainable aquaculture and blue biotechnology, featuring projects such as MEDALG and 2B-Blue; and Smart Marinas and recreational boating, drawing on the experiences of The Ocean Race and Marinas de España.
The programme will also include workshops organised by AEI Medinnova and GALP, aimed at fostering participatory partnerships among attendees.
Yago Sierras, Director of the MedBlueTech Summit and CEO of Mediterranean Algae, said: “Spain is a country with enormous potential in the blue economy. We have approximately 8,000 kilometres of coastline, and we need to start leading the conversation on the future of marine-related sectors in order to accelerate their digital transition and ecological transformation. This is why events such as the MedBlueTech Summit are so important: they bring together all the stakeholders who build the economy every day — companies, the scientific community, public administrations and institutions — and provide a space where their diverse perspectives can be shared.”
Sea Positive Awards
MedBlueTech Summit 2026 will also host the first edition of the Sea Positive Awards, an initiative created to recognise projects that have a positive impact on ocean health. The awards are structured into three categories: Regeneration and Biodiversity, Ecological Transition and Decarbonisation, and Innovation for Marine Sustainability.
The finalist projects will be announced on 24 September and will present their initiatives to a panel of experts during the Summit.
“The Sea Positive Awards add an especially valuable component to the Summit, as they allow us to discover and bring to the forefront projects that are helping to protect and regenerate our oceans — work that deserves to be recognised,” Sierras added.

A space to connect
The main hall of Casa Mediterráneo will also host an Expo Zone, where innovative companies, startups and technology centres will showcase their solutions and connect with potential partners.
MedBlueTech Summit 2026 will take place on Wednesday, 30 September, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Casa Mediterráneo, located in Alicante’s former Benalúa railway station.
Attendance is free, although places are limited and subject to venue capacity. The full programme and registration form are available on the official website: medbluetech.eu.
“The first edition of the MedBlueTech Summit paved the way for the creation of the AEI Medinnova Hub, bringing together innovative companies in Alicante’s blue economy. We are confident that, year after year, we will continue moving forward together towards building the sustainable model we need for the Mediterranean,” said Yago Sierras, Director of the Summit.
