AFRAQ2024- Tunisia at the centre of African aquaculture

AFRAQ2024: Tunisia at the heart of African aquaculture – The global focus on aquaculture is on Tunisia, with the National Institute of Marine Science and Technology (INSTM) signing a hosting agreement on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries. This agreement marks a significant commitment by the Tunisian government in ensuring the success of the third annual international conference and exhibition of the African section of the World Aquaculture Society (AFRAQ2024), to be held in Hammamet from 19 to 22 November 2024.

A concrete commitment by the Tunisian Government

The signing of the hosting agreement demonstrates Tunisia’s commitment to promoting aquaculture as a key sector for economic development and food security. The support of the government and local institutions highlights the importance of the event, not only for Tunisia but for the entire African region. AFRAQ2024 aims to be a platform for scientists, investors and industry players to share knowledge, innovations and best practices.

Support from local companies and sponsorship

Leading Tunisian aquaculture companies, in collaboration with the event’s Gold sponsor, Nutrifish, are offering substantial support. Nutrifish, a leader in aquaculture feed processing and distribution, will present its state-of-the-art mill with a production capacity of 30,000 tonnes per year. Participants will have the opportunity to visit offshore sea bream and sea bass breeding facilities, providing first-hand experience of the innovative practices adopted in the Mediterranean.

A rich and diverse programme

AFRAQ2024, with the theme ‘Blue Farming: New Horizons for Economic Growth’, is expected to attract over a thousand participants from around the world. The conference will offer a scientific forum with oral and poster presentations, a trade fair, industry forums, satellite workshops, student events and tours of aquaculture facilities. These events will provide a comprehensive view of the latest research, innovations and investments in the aquaculture sector, supporting continued growth in Africa.

AFRAQ2024 represents a unique opportunity for Tunisia and the entire African continent to showcase advances and innovations in the aquaculture sector. With the support of the Tunisian government, local companies and international sponsors, the event promises to be a turning point for the sustainable development of aquaculture in Africa.
