Maritime fisheries holding of the 2nd session of the Moroccan-Cabo Verde joint commission

Maritime fisheries: holding of the 2nd session of the Moroccan-Cabo Verde joint commission – The work of the second joint commission between Morocco and Cabo Verde in the field of maritime fisheries took place on Monday in Rabat, within the framework of the effective implementation of the provisions of the cooperation agreement in the field of maritime fisheries concluded in Rabat on December 16, 2004 between the two countries.
Chaired by Zakia Driouich, Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fishing, Rural Development and Water and Forests, and Tania Romualdo, National Director of External Policy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Regional Integration of the Kingdom of Morocco, this session was devoted to the study and examination of the prospects for bilateral cooperation during the year 2023-2024, said a press release of the Department of Maritime Fishing.

Welcoming the cordial and fraternal atmosphere that prevailed in their discussions and the fruitful results achieved at the end of this 2nd session of the Joint Commission, the two parties examined the different axes of cooperation likely to raise this cooperation to the rank of a fruitful partnership in the field of maritime fishing and aquaculture.

Within this framework, the two parties agreed to establish capacity building programmes for the benefit of actors in the fisheries sector, the promotion of scientific fisheries research, the exchange of experience and good practices in the fight against IUU fishing, the development and processing of sea products, the promotion of artisanal fishing, the management of fisheries, the saving of human lives at sea and the promotion of private partnership between economic operators of the two countries, the press release said.

Similarly, the Cape Verdean party, which warmly welcomed the Halieutis sectoral policy, expressed the wish to draw inspiration from the Moroccan experience in terms of setting up a National Agency for the Development of Aquaculture and the dynamics that resulted from it for the promotion and development of aquaculture in Morocco.

The session, which was attended by the Consul of Cape Verde in Dakhla, Mrs. Ana Fernandes, was marked by the signing of the minutes of this committee as well as the adoption of the action plan for the implementation of activities for the year 2023-2024, the same source said.

This session is organized on the sidelines of the holding in Morocco of the joint commission of bilateral cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and Cape Verde, concludes the statement.
