IFFO Conference: the role of the marine ingredients industry

IFFO Conference: the role of the marine ingredients industry – The annual conference organised by the Marine Ingredients Organisation (IFFO) was held as scheduled last Wednesday. 530 delegates from 43 countries met in Lisbon to discuss and analyse opportunities and challenges in the marine ingredients value chain.
Four working sessions were held over three days: two dedicated to market dynamics and another two to analysing future strategies.

Central topics for the feed ingredients industry were touched upon. Particular attention was paid to the supply and demand for marine ingredients and the prospects for the industry beyond traditional products such as fishmeal and fish oil. A major focus was reserved for the topic of marine ingredients in the promotion of human health.

Petter Johannessen, Director General of IFFO, said:

‘We all recognise that a quality feed is the bazof a quality food. This brings with it a great responsibility, which includes the need to accurately measure the environmental and social impact of our activities’.
