Collaboration and partnerships to take center stage at the upcoming Aquaculture Africa 2024 Conference in Tunisia, 19-22 November 2024
– The Aquaculture Africa 2024 Conference (AFRAQ24), set to take place from November 19-22 in Hammamet, Tunisia, promises to be a landmark event in the evolution of Africa’s blue economy. Bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, researchers, and NGOs from across the continent and beyond, AFRAQ24 will focus on the power of collaboration and partnerships in driving sustainable aquaculture.

With the theme “Blue Farming: New Horizons for Economic Growth,” the conference emphasizes how partnerships in science, education, and technology can stimulate innovations in Africa’s blue economy. As the world looks to Africa as a key player in global aquaculture, the event is a pivotal opportunity to explore how collaborative efforts can address the challenges and opportunities within the sector.

A Platform for Collaboration and Innovation

AFRAQ24 is more than just a conference; it is a convergence of the brightest minds and most influential organizations in aquaculture. Hundreds of speakers from Africa and worldwide will share their insights on everything from sustainable practices to technological breakthroughs. The four-day event will feature keynote addresses, workshops, field visits, and networking opportunities to foster deeper cooperation between the public and private sectors.

Key sponsors and supporters include the African Union, FAO, WorldFish, World Bank, African Development Bank, and GIZ. Tunisian stakeholders, ranging from large-scale aquaculture producers to small-scale operators, will engage with international counterparts to explore innovative solutions for sustainable aquaculture development.

Addressing Africa’s Aquaculture Challenges

AFRAQ24 will address a range of pressing topics, including the impact of climate change on aquaculture, aquatic animal health, aquafeeds, biotechnology, and the role of youth and women in the industry. The discussions are expected to yield actionable strategies for overcoming some of Africa’s most significant developmental challenges in aquaculture, while also celebrating the strides made in recent years.

Dr. Sherif Sadek, the past president of the World Aquaculture Society African Chapter (WAS-AC), highlighted the importance of collaboration in these efforts.

“Our diverse membership and strategic partnerships have enabled us to create functional communities that play a vital role in the sustainable development of aquaculture in Africa. AFRAQ24 will once again showcase the power of collaboration,”

he said.

New Additions to the Program

This year’s conference will also see several new and exciting sessions. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will host a special session on aquatic animal health research, while the African Union will unveil its seaweed development program. The Global Salmon Initiative (GSI) is organizing an Africa Aquaculture Business Seminar, bringing together top executives from key aquaculture companies to discuss the future of the industry.

Opportunities for Engagement

Sponsorship opportunities are available for organizations looking to elevate their brand presence in the African aquaculture sector. Nutrifish, WorldFish, WISHH, US Grains, and GIZ are already confirmed as key sponsors.

AFRAQ24 presents a unique opportunity to connect with thought leaders and shape the future of aquaculture in Africa. Whether through sponsorships, attending the sessions, or engaging in workshops, this conference is designed to be a melting pot of ideas and innovations that will drive Africa’s blue economy forward.

The excitement leading up to AFRAQ24 is palpable, and preparations are well underway. The conference organizers are hosting a virtual event on October 15, 2024, to preview the program and logistics. This interactive Zoom session will provide participants with a sneak peek into what to expect at the conference and allow for early networking with global audiences.

Registrations and submission of abstracts are still open. All conference details will be updated on the event page at https://www.was.org/Meeting/code/AFRAQ24
