The tuna industry in Gabon has experienced significant growth in recent years, thanks to the government's commitment to promoting sustainable fishing and aquaculture development.

Gabon and tuna: a treasure of the African sea – Gabon is known for its wealth of marine resources, including tuna. With its biodiversity-rich waters and strategic location along the Gulf of Guinea, Gabon has established itself as a major producer and exporter of tuna.

The tuna industry in Gabon has experienced significant growth in recent years, thanks to the government’s commitment to promoting sustainable fishing and aquaculture development. The country has taken stringent measures to ensure the conservation of fish stocks and preserve marine ecosystems. This has helped maintain high quality tuna production and protect marine biodiversity.

Gabonese waters are rich in several tuna species, including yellow fin tuna, bluefin tuna and skipjack tuna. These species are highly valued on the international market for their tasty and valuable meat. Gabon’s tuna industry focuses mainly on trolling and offshore farming, using modern and sustainable techniques.

The Gabonese government has actively promoted partnerships with foreign investors for the development of the tuna industry. This has led to the opening of modern processing facilities and packaging plants that meet international standards. This modern infrastructure has enabled Gabon to export high quality tuna to international markets, thus contributing to the country’s economic growth.

The tuna industry in Gabon has also had a positive impact on local communities, creating job opportunities and providing support for the food security of coastal populations. Local fishermen have been actively involved in the fishing process and have benefited from training and development programmes to improve their skills and knowledge.

Despite its successes, Gabon continues to face challenges in the sector such as international competition and the need to ensure the long-term sustainability of marine resources. However, the country is committed to continue investing in responsible fisheries management and industry development in order to fully realise its potential as a major player in the global market.

Gabon and its tuna industry represent a positive example of how to reconcile the exploitation of marine resources with the conservation of the marine environment. The country is establishing itself as a leading destination for high quality and sustainable tuna, contributing to economic development and the preservation of Central Africa’s valuable marine resources.
