Gianluigi Negroni joins the Blue Life Hub editorial team

Gianluigi Negroni joins the Blue Life Hub editorial team – With his extensive global experience, Gianluigi Negroni will provide Blue Life Hub readers with weekly articles covering key topics in the blue economy – from aquaculture systems to fish landing sites, international standards, seafood markets, and export strategies. His unique hands-on knowledge will help shed light on the sector’s most relevant trends and challenges.

A global voice in the Blue Economy joins Blue Life Hub

We are proud to welcome Gianluigi Negroni to the Blue Life Hub editorial team. A globally respected consultant and technical expert, Gianluigi brings with him nearly 40 years of direct experience in aquaculture and fisheries, food safety, seafood processing, export strategies, and sustainable innovation. His work has taken him to more than 85 countries across Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas, serving a variety of international organizations, private companies, and national authorities.

Starting next week, Gianluigi will publish weekly article on Blue Life Hub, offering his perspective on technical and strategic topics at the heart of the blue economy.

A career built on science and practice

With a double university degree in Science and Agronomy, a four-year Master’s in Animal Science from the University of Bologna focused on aquaculture, and additional specialized training at McGill University (Canada) and SEAFDEC (Philippines), Negroni combines academic excellence with practical expertise.
Over the course of his career, he has authored more than 100 publications and contributed to countless conferences and workshops on aquaculture, seafood quality systems, international trade, and sustainability.

Gianluigi has worked in every link of the aquaculture and fisheries value chain – from hatchery and feed mill development to on-site farm management, seafood processing, artisanal fisheries, and market access. He is currently the overseas operations director of Alveo Scarl, a consultancy cooperative, and he is also a member of the World Aquaculture Society, the European Aquaculture Society, and the International Fish Inspectors Association.

His experience includes teaching European Union inspectors under the Better Training for Safer Food (BTSF) programme, and preparing SOPs, SSOPs, and quality guidelines for both private companies and competent authorities across Europe, Africa, and Asia.

Through his work, he has helped establish traceability systems, export certification procedures, and inspection frameworks that support both compliance and competitiveness.

A preview of Gianluigi’s editorial vision

We asked Gianluigi what kind of topics he plans to focus on in his weekly articles:

“I’ll cover the full scope of the fisheries value chain, starting with marine and freshwater aquaculture systems, then expanding into several interconnected areas, such as:

  • feed formulation and production;
  • hatchery and nursery operations;
  • seafood processing techniques;
  • infrastructure and organization of landing sites;
  • first-sale market dynamics;
  • food safety and traceability systems;
  • export procedures and quality certifications;
  • zero-emission technologies and circular economy models.

“All of these elements are critical to building resilient, modern, and competitive aquaculture and fisheries systems,”

he adds.

And finally we asked Gianluigi what he hopes to bring to the readers of Blue Life Hub.

“I hope to share not just technical knowledge, but the lessons learned through real-world experiences. My goal is to offer practical tools, insights, and examples that readers can use or reflect on in their own work—whether they are entrepreneurs, public officers, or students. I want to help build a community where knowledge circulates freely and inspires innovation.”
