Since 2016, Mahmoud has been capturing the marine life in Marsa Alam, which constantly fuels his inspiration. The unique coral reefs biodiversity, are what draw Mahmoud to this special location. “Every time I dive, I find something new,” he says, highlighting the endless opportunities for creativity that the diverse marine environments in Marsa Alam offer him.
To capture the intricate details of this hidden underwater world, Mahmoud relies on GoPro cameras, specifically the GoPro 9 and GoPro 12. He prefers the GoPro 9 for its satisfying results without requiring extensive editing, enhancing both the precision and speed of his work. In addition to the camera, Mahmoud ensures the use of appropriate lighting to showcase the vibrant colors of the coral reefs and marine creatures in their best light.
Underwater photography comes with numerous challenges that go beyond just camera control. Mahmoud explains that one of the biggest difficulties is the daily commitment required to dive and follow eco-tourist tours, often in less-than-ideal conditions.
“Strong currents, shifting waters, and other environmental factors make it hard to keep the camera steady and get the perfect shot,”
he says.
This daily grind is not just physically demanding but also a test of perseverance. Mahmoud takes pride in his work and continues to showcase his photography through tourist tours, hoping that his images will receive recognition on an international level.
Through his photography, Mahmoud aims to convey a powerful environmental message.
“I want people to feel awe and admiration for the beauty of marine life and understand the importance of preserving it,”
he says. His art is dedicated to raising awareness about the need to protect oceans, coral reefs, and marine species, – with the hope of fostering sustainable tourism.
