World Aquaculture 2026 to Host Premier Aquaculture Meeting in Tanzania

DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania – The aquaculture community is set to gather in Dar es Salaam from December 1–4, 2026, for the highly anticipated World Aquaculture Conference (WA26T), held in conjunction with Aquaculture Africa 2026 (AFRAQ26). Hosted at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC), this event is poised to be the largest aquaculture meeting in Africa for 2026.

Under the theme “Aquaculture Driving Blue Transformation,” the conference will highlight lessons learned from Tanzania and across the African continent regarding the role of sustainable aquaculture in building resilient food systems for economic growth. As one of Africa’s fastest-growing aquaculture producers, Tanzania offers a unique backdrop for stakeholders to explore advancements in tilapia and seaweed aquaculture, along with emerging technologies and species.

The event, organized by the World Aquaculture Society (WAS) and its African Chapter, follows the significant success of previous gatherings in Uganda, South Africa, Egypt, Zambia, and Tunisia.

Key conference highlights include:

  • Comprehensive Programming: The event features an opening ceremony, plenary sessions, technical and scientific parallel sessions, student sessions, training workshops, and various side meetings.

  • Industry Exhibition: A global trade show will provide a platform for companies to showcase the latest products and innovations in the aquaculture sector.

  • Expert Networking: The conference offers a prime opportunity for researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and industry leaders to meet, network, and discuss the future of aquaculture in Africa.

  • Cultural and Tourism Experience: Participants are encouraged to explore Tanzania’s world-class tourism attractions, including safaris in the Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Crater, the historic charm of Zanzibar, and Mt. Kilimanjaro.

“This event is a testament to the growing momentum of aquaculture as a pillar of Africa’s economic development,” said a spokesperson for the event. “We are excited to welcome the global community to Dar es Salaam to share knowledge and foster collaborations that will drive the industry forward.”

This event is made possible with the support of the government of the Republic of Tanzania and Zanzibar, along with key sponsors including the WAS African Chapter, Aller Aqua, and AUDA-NEPAD.

Registration is currently open, and professionals are encouraged to submit their abstracts to be part of the technical program. Further details regarding the schedule, exhibition opportunities, and registration can be found on the official event page at https://was.org/meeting/code/AFRAQ26.
