Entrepreneurship Week in Algeria: Supporting Innovation in Fisheries and Aquaculture
Between November 17 and 21, 2025, Algeria celebrated Entrepreneurship Week, focusing on promoting entrepreneurship and investment in key sectors, particularly fisheries and aquaculture. The events included open houses and hands-on workshops that allowed students and young investors to learn how to launch and grow their projects. The week served as a platform for knowledge exchange between young entrepreneurs, investors, and institutions, highlighting the importance of supporting entrepreneurship as a tool for local economic development and encouraging sustainable investment in the fisheries and aquaculture sector.

During Entrepreneurship Week, Algeria hosted a variety of events aimed at supporting entrepreneurship and investment in the fisheries and aquaculture sector. In the north, the Higher School of Marine Sciences (ENSSMAL) organized intensive workshops, training sessions, and knowledge-sharing meetings focused on innovation and the blue economy, helping students and investors develop their ideas into actionable projects. Meanwhile, in the south, the Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture in Ouargla held open houses in collaboration with joint chambers, experimental stations, and entrepreneurship support agencies, introducing students and young entrepreneurs to investment opportunities and encouraging sustainable projects in this vital sector.
Incentives for Investment in Fisheries and Aquaculture
Algeria has implemented a set of policies to encourage investment in fisheries and aquaculture. These include microloans for small and medium enterprises, tax exemptions or reductions for certain activities in the sector, and production-linked grants awarded when output exceeds a certain threshold. These incentives create a supportive environment for young investors and entrepreneurs, fostering sustainable development in the blue economy while generating local employment opportunities.

Entrepreneurship and Innovation Opportunities
The celebrations emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship as a driver of local economic development, especially in key sectors like fisheries and aquaculture. Open houses and workshops provided participants with opportunities to exchange knowledge, learn best practices in project management, and explore investment opportunities, motivating them to engage in sustainable and innovative projects that strengthen local economies and develop Algeria’s blue economy.
Entrepreneurship Week in Algeria clearly demonstrated the value of supporting young entrepreneurs and investors in the fisheries and aquaculture sector. By organizing open houses and national workshops, and highlighting supportive policies and investment opportunities, participants were empowered to transform ideas into sustainable and successful projects. These initiatives underscore the crucial role of entrepreneurship in driving economic growth and opening new horizons for ambitious young people in Algeria.
